Manual or automatic rearview mirror: Which is better?

Nowadays, some modern cars have electrochromic rearview mirrors that dim automatically. This is convenient, but the manual system still has many advantages. 

The manual system:

  • It almost never breaks down
  • It costs nothing
  • It always works
  • gives you control

The automatic system:

  • comfortable
  • but more expensive
  • can break
  • depends on sensors

That’s why many vehicles still use this simple and very reliable system.
